Session 6 Paper Circuits

Session 6
Date: 10/10/19
Topic: Paper Circuits
Objective: Explore basic concepts of electricity and circuits using familiar and accessible materials. Explore materials, techniques, and resources for making paper circuits.

  • Make a Holiday or Greeting card that includes a light up circuit
  • 3 CREDIT CHALLENGE: Make you card have some “pop-up” element

I made a birthday card for my 18-year good friend John, who's my classmate in my primary school.

I made a pop-up castle. The drawing was a bit difficult, because I had to use the ruler to measure and always kept balance and symmetry. But what even more difficult was to make the pop-up connections.  I thought it only needed to cut a bit more, that's enough. However, later on I found they had to match each other, which means every connection should have a certain length. But I didn't know, so I tried little by little...

Finally, the pop up made out but my circuit on the back was too complex. I wanted it can light up stair by stair when I touch different part of the moon (the switch). But it didn't work out.

Then teacher James kindly drew 2 circuit image for me an then I was suddenly been enlightened and realized it should be simple - the basic parallel circuit.

Teacher also made a smart switch for me. The secret was using a gasket. When you pressed down the certain location, the copper would meet and the circuit work.

I drew other lovely images and wrote some wishes in the end. I love the bright castle and appreciate
James' help!
